Information about the tour

Information about the city tour and the history of the student project:
Few people today are aware that numerous places, buildings, houses, and squares in our hometown of Hof were sites of persecution and the ensuing extermination of Jewish citizens during the Nazi era – but in the years before, they were also places of Jewish life, work, business, learning, family happiness and suffering – in short, lived normality. Since November 2024, the city of Hof has been erecting granite steles in front of the houses where these families lived or worked. These steles contain panels with overview information and QR codes that direct interested walkers to the texts and images about the respective families on our website. An overview panel at the Hof Tourist Information Center displays a stylized city map with a list of residential and commercial buildings belonging to Jewish citizens of Hof. It is intended to convey an impression of the diversity of Jewish life in Hof in the early 20th century, of which we can only capture a small part with our student project. For the opening of the stele tour on May 8, 2025, we redesigned the layout and revised some of the written texts, which were written by various student teams. The films and audio texts remained in their original form. These, and some of the translations, were also created by the student group that participated in the 2018/2019 competition with the project.
We wish you an interesting and insightful walk through Hof!
