Fate of the Lax & Lump Family – in brief
Klara and Emma Lump came from Hesse-Nassau and courageously founded a shop for ladies‘ hats in Kulmbach in 1906, later also in Hof. Klara married the religious education teacher Richard Wetzler, who died in the First World War, and later emigrated to the Netherlands, where she survived in hiding. Emma married Hans Lax, but when the National Socialists came to power, the family came under increasing pressure. They were forced to move to Leipzig in 1939 and deported to the Bełżyce ghetto in 1942, where Emma presumably died. Hans was deported to the Majdanek concentration camp. Klara emigrated to Argentina in 1946, but never received the compensation she applied for.
